Green economy assessment report: Kenya

This study aims to provide a macroeconomic assessment of the challenges, risks and potential benefits of a transition to a green economy, and presents recommendations to the government of Kenya on how to facilitate the process. It argues that a green economy offers major potential benefits in the medium and long term with regard to high output and productivity, a clean environment and low poverty levels. The fundamental challenge identified is the mainstreaming and alignment of green economy activities across the social, economic and environmental spheres of society. It is argued that this requires an integrated approach through the development of a strategy that identifies the costs, opportunities, trade-offs and range of policy instruments that support the transition to a green economy. Key thematic areas identified include standards and regulations, financing, fiscal policy, and coherent and effective policy coordination.
